Many of the couples we film live overseas and fly home to Jaffna for the wedding. Planning from thousands of kilometres away is easier than it sounds if you settle a few things early.
Book your photographer as soon as the date is fixed
Auspicious wedding dates in Jaffna are shared by many families, and the best teams are booked months ahead. Contact your photographer as soon as your date is confirmed, ideally three to six months before the wedding.
Share the order of the day
Every family follows its own customs. Send your photographer the plan for the day so they know where to be for each ritual:
- the times for preparations at home, the temple or hall, and the reception
- the rituals that matter most to your parents and grandparents
- the venues, with location pins
Make a family photo list
On the day there is little time to search for relatives. A short list of the group photos you must have, with one cousin who knows everyone, keeps portraits quick and calm.
Plan the live stream for relatives who cannot travel
If grandparents or friends cannot make the trip, ask for live streaming. The studio checks the venue connection beforehand and gives you one private link to share. Remember the time difference: a morning muhurtham in Jaffna is late at night in Canada.
Agree everything in writing
Confirm the date, coverage hours, deliverables and payment terms in writing before you pay a deposit, and keep all communication in one WhatsApp chat.
Arrive a few days early if you can
A pre-shoot or outdoor couple session in the days before the wedding gives you relaxed portraits and helps you get comfortable in front of the camera.
